William M. Anderson Attendance Policy & Procedures

According to Dallas ISD Policy, parents should turn in an excuse note to the school attendance office within three days of returning to school.

HOW TO SUBMIT EXCUSE NOTES

You have two options: 

EMAIL - turn in your excuse note to bjacobo@dallasisd.org 
This email address is ONLY used to receive excuse notes. We cannot respond from this email account.
IN PERSON - turn in your HANDWRITTEN NOTE in person to our school attendance office.
Excuse notes (submitted via either email or in person) must include:

  • Student's complete name as it appears in PowerSchool (no nicknames)
  • Student's ID number
  • Grade
  • A written statement giving the date and reason for the absence(s)
  • Parent/Guardian signature

PLEASE ALLOW UP TO 5 BUSINESS DAYS FOR EXCUSE NOTES TO BE ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM. 

WHAT TYPE OF ABSENCE WILL BE EXCUSED?

  • Child's illness or injury (Parent note will be accepted for up to four days)
  • Doctor or dental appointments that cannot be scheduled before or after school hours
  • Family Emergency (Approval by an administrator)
  • Religious Holy days
  • Court Appearances (Must bring court documentation)
  • Death of a family member (Must bring supporting documentation, such as obituary or death certificate)

Attendance for Credit: According to Texas State law, each student must be in attendance 90% of the days the class is offered. The implementation of the Attendance for Credit Initiative is to ensure all students are in attendance 90% of the time a class is offered to certify successful accrual of final grade.

Per state mandate, our district must provide parents with the Texas Compulsory Attendance Law-Official Notice.
